About the Game

A VR re-imagining of the classic Asteroids game from the 1970s.

I have stayed as close as I can to the original 2D version, whilst transplanting the mechanics into 3D room scale so that it works in VR.

Graphics - Classic Mode

The game is rendered using wireframe models for a style reminiscent of the original vector based graphics, with the models updated to 3D.

Graphics - Enhanced Mode

An update brings the ability to switch between Classic mode and Enhanced graphics mode on the fly :)

Enhanced mode adds high poly textured models, lighting and plenty of particle effects too!

Gameplay

The warping from one side of the screen to the other has been updated to warp the ship to the opposite side of the play area no matter which side the ship exits from.

The original single 2D screen has been updated to a full 3m play space within virtual reality. You do not need that large a room to play the game, but you can walk around however much space you have to get a better view of the action!

Controls

3D rotation of the ship is handled by rotating your controller in any direction. The grip button activates your thrusters, and the trigger button activates the laser.

Sounds

The classic sounds keep the feeling of the original arcade game, along with 3D positional audio help you locate your ship and enemy UFO within the room.

First of all this is way cool! It def brings the game into the 21st century, and I really love the enhanced graphics mode, I felt like I should have been sneezing when I was in the particles!

Couple of things:
Im using Rift S with touch controllers and there are no thrusters. I can warp around and rotate the ship but thrusters are a no go, on either left nor right controller.

UFO hit area needs to be expanded, bullets go right through the disk and one time I had it flying directly at me with the leading face of the disk headed right at the ship. Even with constant ROF direct hits to the face,  it wasn't until the ufo was within an inch or so that a hit was finally registered.

Keep at it! I look forward to seeing future iterations!  Playing this made me wish you'd consider doing a Tempest game!

In case anyone is concerned about the touch controllers not working, the latest release is confirmed to work with Thrust controls on the grip button, thanks to FMHeatSink for testing it out :)
